Principal's Message

Dear Cornell Families,

As the cold air lingers our students will be entering the building with their coats, gloves, and hats.  Please dress in layers as the outside is cold and our building is warm.  The 2nd nine weeks is over and PSSA’s are right around the corner.  Let’s work hard to bring up a grade or keep those good grades where they are for the next report period.

I am happy to report that Cornell School District has hired retired Allegheny County Lieutenant Jeffrey Korczyk as our first ever school resource officer.  He will oversee all aspects of school safety and security measures, including conducting appropriate drills for staff and students, and revising our emergency management plan as necessary.  In addition, Mr. Korczyk will serve as an additional resource for truancy issues, home visits, and will be a new liaison for the Coraopolis Police Department.

As a reminder to anybody who moves or changes their phone and cell phone numbers; please inform the front office at 412-264-5010 ext. 141 so we can make those changes on file and have the ability to get ahold of you.  Also, please know we can only release your child to the names of people you wrote on the Emergency Dismissal Form.  Anybody picking up a child from school will need proper identification on them.

If you child is being picked up early or not staying for their scheduled after school program, please call or email Mrs. Shoecraft at eshoecraft@cornellsd.org or their classroom teacher.  We need permission form a legal guardian to change their after school schedules.  A text from home to a child’s phone will not suffice.  We will need to confirm contact from one adult to another through our proper means of communication.  Thank you for helping us to keep the kids of the Cornell School District safe.

Remember, this year, Cornell Elementary will move to a rotation schedule for their special classes (Art, PE, Music, Library and Tech Ed).  The special schedule will run A, B, C, D, E days and not Monday through Friday.  Once you have your child’s classroom schedule from the teacher, you can compare it to the Annual Rotation Schedule Calendar listed on the website under the parents tab. This calendar will also be sent home many times throughout the year.

Sincerely,

Jeff Carter
