Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! For my 11th year, I am excited again to begin this year with you and your child here at Cornell Elementary.  If you have not already received your child’s homeroom assignment in the mail, you will in the next few days.  The first day of school is August 25th. Students may arrive at 8:05 AM, door 7, at the cafeteria entrance with the umbrella tables. School dismisses daily at 3:20. If you have a last-minute pick up, please call the elementary office as soon as possible but no later than 3:00. Bus transportation information can be found at cornellsd.org go to Parents, Transportation.  If you have any questions related to student transportation, please contact Michelle Weaver, Cornell Transportation Coordinator, at 412-264-5010 ~ Ext. 1101 or via email at [email protected].

It is very important to me that your children come together as a community of learners.  Therefore, we will be spending a lot of time over the next few weeks getting to know each other, learning the importance of respect, and valuing others’ ideas. Our main core values will focus on HEART: Hardworking, Excellence, Acceptance, Respect, and Team.  Continuous success in these areas will lead to a successful academic year.

Every classroom is fully equipped with iPads, laptops, Smartboard technology, state of the art resources, and educational apps. Our students participate in extensive technology activities and experiences to become future leaders in the 21st Century.

I addition to technology, a focus of many grade levels will be our house system. Students will be part of a team that builds character, empathy, and building relationships. In a few weeks, ask your child about their house!

Some communication tools we are using in technology are Class Dojo and Remind Apps. If you are not already connected to your teacher’s site, please shoot them an email once school gets started.  This is a great way to get clips of what your child does here at school as well as a communication tool on their successes and struggles.

You will find that the entire Cornell faculty and staff are ready and prepared to teach, lead, support, and challenge your child as they help them grow this school year.  I hope that you and your child are excited and ready for the beginning of this new and inspiring school year.

Sincerely,

Mr. Carter
