Counseling Services and Programs

Individual Counseling

  • Individual counseling meetings provide students with a safe and supportive environment to build the social and emotional skills needed for success in school.  Meetings can focus on any student need; such as developing positive peer interactions, improving emotional regulation, strengthening conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, grief & loss, home & family, and helping students understand and follow school rules and expectations.

Counseling Support Services

  • The Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides a proactive, team-based approach to identifying and supporting students who may be experiencing academic, behavioral, social, emotional, or attendance-related challenges. In the elementary setting, SAP helps connect students and families with appropriate school and community resources, fostering early intervention and prevention. Through collaboration among educators, counselors, administrators, families, and community agencies, the program promotes student well-being, removes barriers to learning, and supports a positive and inclusive school environment where all students can succeed.

Care Solace

  • Cornell School District is proud to partner with Care Solace to help connect students and families with mental health care and community-based support services.  Care Solace provides personalized assistance in finding providers for mental health counseling, substance use treatment, and other wellness services.  https://www.caresolace.com/site/cornell

Cornell Elementary Wellness Services

  • The Cornell Elementary Wellness Room provides a safe, supportive space where students can receive assistance from a behavioral specialist throughout the school day.  The room serves as a structured place for students to take a brief, supervised break when needed, helping them to regulate their emotions and successfully return to learning.  In addition, the Wellness Room offers small-group sessions that focus on developing positive behavioral skills, emotional regulation, problem-solving, coping strategies, and appropriate social interactions to support students’ overall success in school.

Cornell Elementary HEART & Attendance Stars Program

  • The HEART program is a positive behavior recognition initiative that encourages students to demonstrate the values of Hardworking, Excellence, Acceptance, Respect, and Team.  These five qualities help build a supportive and responsible school culture where students are recognized for making positive choices both in and out of the classroom.  Staff members award HEARTs to students who consistently show these traits, reinforcing the importance of character, effort and teamwork. Our goal is that students are motivated to model these behaviors because their positive actions are acknowledged and celebrated throughout the school, and they understand that positive actions contribute to a healthy, accepting, and safe school community. The program has shown positive results in reducing office referrals and creating a more positive school environment.
